5-Step Application Process
Submit Application
Complete the initial interest form, then submit the full application with all required documents.
Physical Fitness Test
Pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy fitness standards: 1.5-mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, flexibility.
Background Investigation
Comprehensive check of your criminal, employment, and personal history.
Interview Process
Panel interview followed by final interview with the Chief of Police.
Conditional Offer & Exams
Medical, drug, and psychological screenings after conditional offer.

Important Information
MCJA Testing Required
All non-certified applicants must have passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT test and Physical Fitness Test before applying.
Lateral Transfers Welcome
Currently certified Maine law enforcement officers get competitive incentives and abbreviated hiring process.

Police Academy Training
New, non-certified officers attend the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
